Launch of ‘Season of Sailing’  - June 2010
Tourism Queensland's inaugural Queensland's Season of Sailing campaign has officially begun highlighting the state's fantastic winter sailing events which stretch from Brisbane to North Queensland, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said today.
Mr Lawlor said packages showcasing Central Queensland, the Whitsundays and Townsville during the colour and spectacle of the sailing events along Queensland's coast from August 6 to September 7 would be on sale from June 1.  Read more...

Crossing the ditch to the Whitsunday Islands in Australia might not seem like a viable option for a long weekend away, but that’s exactly what Kiwis are being encouraged to do.

Facts and Figures
Captain Cook first sailed through the Whitsundays on the 4th of June 1770. Cook named the area after the day he sailed though, Whitsunday, the second Sunday of Easter.
There are 74 Islands in the Whitsundays.

Council expands commitment to Tourism – June 2010
Whitsunday Regional Council has expanded it’s commitment to tourism in it’s budget, in a move welcomed by the industry.  Tourism Whitsundays will receive $250,000 in funding for destination marketing, and Tourism Bowen will receive $60,000.  The Council has also committed a further $100,000 for Tourism Whitsundays, to be matched dollar for dollar with additional industry funding. International visitors keep Whitsundays afloat - June 2010
It was another mixed bag of results for the Whitsundays, with last week’s release of National and International visitor statistics from Tourism Research Australia.

Tourism Whitsundays Chief Executive Officer Peter O’Reilly said the region had continued its growth trend for international visitors, but was still continuing to see declining domestic visitation. Read more...

Right as Rain - April 2010
The Aussie saying ‘Right as Rain’ has never been truer than for the Whitsundays in the wake of Cyclone Ului, which hit the region in late March. Just two weeks on, the Whitsundays is back open for business and enjoyed a busy Easter season.Tourism Whitsundays Chief Executive Officer Peter O’Reilly said there had been very little structural damage throughout the region.
