CONWAY BEACH

Between Proserpine and Airlie Beach you will find a turn off to Conway Beach. This is a lovely place to visit ideal for long strolls along the beach. Conway Beach has a caravan park, public toilets and shaded picnic areas.

A short drive away is Wilson Beach, an even quieter haven. These areas provide magnificent views of the Proserpine River and the ocean. Fishing is very popular in this area. When the wind picks up, kite surfers can be seen showing off in the waters off the beach.

Halfway down the road you will find a turn-off to Cedar Creek Falls, a beautiful waterhole in the dry season with a full-flowing waterfall after the rains. Bring your swimmers and hop in to cool off on a hot day.

DINGO BEACH

Travelling North from Airlie Beach you will find Dingo Beach, another laid-back beachside haven that is rapidly becoming a sought after area. This area is a beachcomber's delight, stroll along several kilometres of long sandy beaches, picnic under shady trees. Enjoy talking to the great local characters at the village store and pub where a delicious seafood BBQ is held every Sunday.

The more adventurous might like to launch their dinghies and explore the secluded bays of Gloucester Island. East Side Bay has a lagoon that abounds with crabs and fish and there are several camping grounds on the island. Get your permits from the Whitsunday Information Centre for just $4.85 per person - cheapest accommodation in the Whitsundays!

HYDEAWAY BAY

A little turnoff before Dingo Beach takes you to the secluded Hydeaway Bay. Here you can really get away from it all on the long sandy beach or venture over "Oh My God" Hill along the red dirt track to the two little resorts & restaurants. Montes & Cape Gloucester Eco Resort are a lovely place to get a meal, have a dip in the pool, and stroll the 5 minutes along the beautiful beach between the two while gazing out at Gloucester Island. If you arrive by boat you can book a mooring, or you can rent a cabin and stay for the night.

Hydeaway Bay also has a caravan park with tennis courts.

MIDGE POINT

Heading south of Airlie Beach and Proserpine lies the charming Midge Point area. Midge Point is an ideal place to bushwalk, go fishing and crabbing and generally relax in a peaceful and tranquil area by the beach. It is home to a small number of accommodation options such as a caravan park set in 68 hectares of semi tropical rainforest.

Situated a little further north of Midge Point is Laguna Quays which boasts one a championship golf course and poolside restaurant.

EUNGELLA & FINCH HATTON

Not technically in the Whitsundays, but a lovely diversion from all the water-based activites is the Eungella National Park. Pronounced "Younger-la" Eungella is the only place in the area known to be home to the most elusive of native Australian animals, the Platypus! About 90 kilometres south of Airlie Beach along the Bruce Highway, turn off towards Marian/Mirani & Eungella and in around half an hour you will find yourself in the Pioneer Valley. Finch Hatton is a quaint little town in the valley and Eungella Township lies further up a windy mountain road on the way to Broken River.

There are numerous bushwalks throughout the National Park, dotted with creeks, swimming holes, campsites and cabins. All this combines to make Eungella an excellent weekend away destination for those seeking a break from aquatic activities.
