Diving

One of the most highly regarded diving destinations on earth is the Great Barrier Reef.  Located in the heart of this natural wonder is the Whitsundays - the weather and water temperatures of the Whitsundays is the perfect mix for year round scuba diving.

DIVER 1

The fringing reefs of the Whitsundays Islands are noted for their high diversity of coral, teeming with unique fish and other marine life. Some of the best island dive sites are Hazelwood Island, Blue Pearl Bay, Dolphin Point and East Reef on Hayman Island. On Hook Island the variety of sites are all quite exceptional, you have The Woodpile, Alcyonaria Point, Luncheon Bay, Manta Ray Bay, Maureen's Cove and The Pinnacles.

One of the most popular dive sites in the Whitsundays is Bait Reef which is home to two amazing coral formations know as the Stepping Stones and the Cathedral.

The Stepping Stones are a beautiful rarity on the Great Barrier Reef. Over 15 vertical columns representing a million of years of coral growths or "bommies" leave the bottom, some 30 metres away and ascend to near the surface. Covering these columns are all manner of soft and hard corals, with the nooks and crannies home to various marine life and creatures of the sea.

The Cathedral is a spectacular church-like amphitheatre in the reef, which offers spectacular dives. This structure is so named for the underwater cavern that allows divers to swim through with cracks in the top which allow natural light to shine through. Stingrays, ragged tooth sharks and moray eels may often be found in the site.

The outer Great Barrier Reef provides ideal diving sites and some of the best are the Southern face of Bait Reef, Henry's Bommie, Little Fairey Inlet, Tina's Arm (Fairey Reef), Knuckle Reef and Hardy Reef.
